New in 2017, The Market has partnered with Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) to offer extended Saturday service for The
Market. In the months of May through October, the Downtown D-Line will start Saturday service at 7 a.m. Attendees can park their vehicles anywhere along the route, hop on the bus and be dropped off near The Market between First Street and Fifth Avenue on the D-Line route. The D-Line runs primarily on Grand Avenue and Locust Street and uses the Walnut Street bridge to connect to the Historic East Village. Bus stops are located almost every block and marked specifically for the D-Line. D-Line buses will run approximately every 10 minutes on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn more here or click the map below to download!

What can I bring on the bus?

Grocery bags, coolers, baby strollers and most items from The Market are allowed on DART buses. There is no eating or drinking while on the bus, but food and beverages are welcome if in closed containers. For the safety of all passengers, we ask that you keep aisles clear and collapse any strollers or chairs you may have with you.

How to Ride Tips:

  • Look for D-Line bus stop signs on Locust, Grand and Walnut. Stand at one of the bus stop signs and wait where the driver can see you. Buses arrive approximately every 10 minutes.
  • As the bus approaches, check the sign above the windshield to make sure it displays the name “D-Line.”
  • The D-Line is a free-to-ride route. Simply hop on, find a seat and enjoy the ride.
  • Stay alert and remember to signal the driver — you do this by pulling the cord above the window or pressing the stop button on the hand rails approximately one block before your stop.
  • If you are not sure where to get off, please ask the driver when you get on the bus. DART bus drivers are happy to help you!

While we plan to be open every Saturday, rain or shine, inclement weather in this open-air market can make closures, delays and/or cancellations possible. In the case of emergency weather conditions, the safety of our patrons, vendors (and their employees), volunteers and staff is our first priority. On any given Saturday, The Market has nearly 300 vendors and more than 25,000 visitors spanning nine city blocks; we take their safety very seriously and make decisions accordingly. With regard to the personal safety of vendors, patrons and the general public, Market management will determine if or when a closure, delay and/or cancellation of The Market is imminent. Because of the variable nature of a potential emergency or urgent situation, we ask vendors, patrons and the general public to please be on alert and adhere to the direction given in the emergency or urgent situation. If time permits, we will broadcast any information about closures, delays or cancellations via local media and The Market social media outlets in addition to this website.
