2014 – Downtown Farmers’ Market – Travel tips for this Saturday!

The Downtown Farmers’ Market presented by UnityPoint Health – Des Moines is held in the Historic Court District, every Saturday morning, rain or shine, from May 3 – Oct 25, 2014. This Saturday, Market patrons may experience travel delays due to Dam to Dam.

Here are four tips to get to The Market May 31:

  • Come before 9:30 a.m., stay until at least 10 a.m. (Avoid traveling to and from The Market between 9:30-10 a.m.)
  • Use I-235 and take the Third, Fifth, or Seventh street exits south to the market. (These streets will only be affected for approximately 9 minutes at the start of the 5K at 9:30 a.m.) From the south, use the Eighth Street viaduct, East Sixth, or East 14th streets to enter Downtown. Travel east/west using Grand Avenue & Walnut Street.
  • Use a route other than Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and avoid parking south of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway. Foot and vehicle traffic may have difficulty or be unable to cross MLK going north. Parking is available in the Downtown Public Ramps. (Dam to Dam participants are being shuttled in or being directed to park in private lots.)
  • Pedestrians coming from east of the river should use Walnut Street, Locust Street, or Grand Avenue bridges. The Court Avenue bridge will not be accessible during the half marathon.
