Tips For Traveling To The Downtown Farmers’ Market During The Dam To Dam Race

Thursday, Jun. 2, 2016

Patrons of the Downtown Farmers’ Market Presented by UnityPoint Health – Des Moines may experience travel delays due to the Dam to Dam race this Saturday, June 4, 2016. Traffic will be heavy, so please be patient as a full Farmers’ Market filled with your favorite products and loads of fun is waiting for you. Parking will be available in the Downtown Public Ramps. (Dam to Dam participants are being shuttled in or being directed to park in private lots.)

Getting to the Downtown Farmers’ Market will not be impacted coming from the north. From the south, westbound traffic will be closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway (MLK) between 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. Market patrons can use the 9th/8th Street viaduct which travels over MLK. To access the viaduct from MLK, turn south on 7th Street to Tuttle. Turn west on Tuttle to 8th Street. Turn north on 8th Street to access the viaduct. Another option is to park south of MLK and walk north about three blocks to The Market. After 10:30 a.m., the Downtown Farmers’ Market will be accessible as usual.

The Court Avenue Bridge will be closed to pedestrian traffic from 7:30 until 9:30 a.m. Pedestrians will have to use the Walnut Street Bridge to access the Downtown Farmers’ Market.
